Stakes: Sports Predict
Head of Design
Opportunity: A seed-stage team with a prior app, the founder wanted to pivot to a more gamified approach as 53% of Gen Z sports fans log in to a game daily.
Solution: A full Core UI redesign plus new features which allowed multiple ways for Users to compare themselves with others and debate who is the bigger fan.
Overall UI & Navigation
To support a core conceit of: Risk Your Reputation (of your knowledge of your team, it’s players, key strategies and plays) in a given match I was asked to redesign the home screen and whatever additional screens needed revision.
Over the course of 3 quarters we revised the Home screen each time, iterating based on User interviews, feedback from our Discord and the new tentpole feature the team was developing that release.
We saw increased engagement with the meta progression of a User’s Rep Score, and engagement with our head to head social feature.
Ranked Booster Clubs
Opportunity: user interviews showed Users wanted a place to chat and hang with other fans of their team
Solution: give fans of a team a place to congregate and a way to compare how well they know their team vs other fans during the week leading up to Game Day
User feedback indicated strong enthusiasm for the new feature & the data bore that out with Questions Answered increased nearly 40% week over week for the top 50% of our engaged Users
Daily Sports Trivia
Starting feature designs as Low-Fi Wireflows allowed quick iteration, in this case, on how to handle both the scoring at the end (where you see your right/wrong compared to the Athlete) to integration of the feature with the main screen of the App.
Key outcome: This kept users engaged when their team had no active games & allowed them to show off their sports knowledge, even if the athlete they were playing against might not play for their team.
